Monthly Competition Rules

There are five monthly competitions divided into three categories -Monochrome Prints, Colour Prints and Colour Slides, each of these categories are divided into beginners and advanced. The results of all five competitions count towards each person's yearly total. Each member is classed as a beginner unless they have: -

(a) Won the beginners section of that category in a previous year.

(b) Had acceptances in international exhibitions.

(c) Won a major award in the relevant category in the club's annual exhibition.

(d) Been recognised as an advanced worker by another photographic society.

Prints (beginner and advanced) - One or two prints may be submitted to each competition, they will be judged and marked out of fifteen by an independent judge, only the higher of the two marks is counted.

The size of the print can be any size up to 20" x 16". The print should be mounted on a suitable card mount no larger than 20" x 16" and no smaller than 10" x 8".

The back of the mount should show the following details - a title, the author's membership number, the category it is entered for, nothing else.

Colour prints may, be home processed by the member or trade processed.

Monochrome prints should be home processed.

Slides (beginner and advanced) - One or two slides may be submitted to each competition, they will be judged and marked out of fifteen by an independent judge, the higher of the two marks is counted for beginners, both marks are counted for advanced.

The slides may be home processed by the member or trade processed.

The slide should be mounted in a 2" x 2' glass mount. The slide mount should show the following details - a title, the author's membership number, the category it is entered for, correctly spotted, nothing else.

Slides and Prints for competitions must be handed in when requested. If any member is unclear about these rules, then any committee member will be pleased to help by answering all your questions.

 

SPF RULES FOR MONOCHROME PRINTS .

The official requirement for a monochrome entry to any Club Competition or SPF Competition is as follows.

All shades of grey from pure white to pure black with no colour content ie a photograph in monochrome cannot include a coloured object.

However a toned photograph in sepia is acceptable, again provided it does not contain a coloured object.
